47 Article 124 of the constitution established the Supreme Court of India consisting of the Chief Justice and other Judges. By article 131 the Supreme Court was given original and exclusive jurisdiction in any dispute between the government of India and State or between States involving any question of law or fact on which the existence of the extent of a legal right depends. By article 132, an appeal to the Supreme Court from a High Court lies in any civil, criminal, or other proceedings if a High Court certifies that a substantial question of law as to the interpretation of the constitution is involved. By article 133 civil and criminal appeals lie from any decision of the High Court on a question of law, and with leave. In addition, by article 136 the Supreme Court may grant special leave to appeal from any decision ‘in any cause or matter passed or made by any court or tribunal in the territory of India’.
