An Integrated Approach to Elections and Conflict
About the Author
Lisa Kammerud is a Research Officer at the F. Clifton White Applied Research Center for Democracy and
Elections at the International Foundation for Electoral Systems in Washington, D.C. She is involved in a variety of
research and programs related to elections and conflict and election dispute resolution. She manages the
development and implementation of the Election Violence Education and Resolution (EVER) project, and has led
field projects in Bangladesh, East Timor, Guyana, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, Nepal, Nigeria, and Senegal. She is the
author of “Merging Conflict Management with Electoral Practice: The IFES Experience,” in Elections in
Dangerous Places: Democracy and the Paradoxes of Peacebuilding, published in October 2011. Ms. Kammerud
has been with IFES since 2003, and leading EVER programs since 2005. She holds an MA in international affairs
(concentration in conflict resolution and international law) from George Washington University and a BA in
international relations and history from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.
