Drawing on an extensive collection of comparative case law housed in the ElectionJudgments.org database, “Lessons on Gender Equality and Women’s Political Participation” uses comparative case law to gleanoffers insights into the real-world efforts to operationalize the goal of gender equality espoused by many countries and achieved by almost none. Analyzing litigation from France to Samoa and Kenya to Mexico, this paper explores on the legal questions that arise when introducing and enforcing gender quotas and other affirmative actions designed to operationalize gender equality.
